The opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party tops the 2011 list of political parties with the largest donation revenues, according to the annual financial report of the Bulgarian Audit Office.

The Socialists' 2011 donations totaled almost BGN 370 000, the report reveals, listing a total of 449 donors.

Of those, the largest donors are the notorious businessman Georgi Gergov (known for managing to take control over the Plovdiv International Fair even though the company is technically supposed to be state-owned), his son Tsvetomir Gergov, and the Socialist Member of the European Parliament Iliyana Yotova.

Another of the Bulgarian opposition formations, the ethnic Turkish party DPS (Movement for Rights and Freedoms) is in the bottom of the political donations list of the Bulgarian Audit Office.

The DPS party declare zero revenues from donations in 2011, with the party stating that the state subsidy that it is granted, and its own income are "totally sufficient" for covering its expenditures.

Thus, 84% of the money that the Movement chaired by Ahmed Dogan spent in 2011 came from the state subsidy, and the rest came from membership fees and interest on party deposits.
