Sofia Police Detain Suspect in Drug Dealer's Murder

Emil Dobrudzhanski, 32, has been detained on suspicion of murdering 30-year-old Asen Lazarov, a drug dealer.

Lazarov was shot dead on February 17 in the Lagera residential district in Sofia, the Sofia Police Directorate reminded in a statement, as cited by the Bulgarian National radio (BNR).

According to unconfirmed reports, the reason for the assault was a sum of BGN 5000 that Lazarov owed to Dobrudzhanski.

The 32-year-old suspect has been detained for 72 hours.

Lazarov has a criminal record for drug possession, thefts and for issuing a death threat.

In 2003 he was handed down a two-year suspended sentence with four years of probation for drug possession.

Evidence-gathering procedures continue.

Dobrudzhanski has been referred to the experts at the Institute of Psychology at the Interior Ministry.

On February 17, Lazarov was shot down by three bullets, one of which hit him in the neck, and two in the chest, at the entrance of the block of flats he lives in on Tsar Boris III Blvd in Sofia.

The dead body was found by two girls who had kept him company prior to the accident.
