Bulgarian Jan-Feb Exports outside EU Down 2.6% Y/Y

In the period January - February 2012, Bulgarian exports to third countries decreased by 2.6% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to BGN 2.3 B.

The data was released Monday by the National Statistics Institute, NSI.

The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Turkey, China, United Arab Emirates, Russia, Serbia and The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, which formed 51.2% of the total exports to non EU countries.

The exports to United Arab Emirates, Canada, Syria and Brazil increased significantly. The most significant falls were reported on the exports to Singapore, South Africa, India and Croatia.

In February 2012, the exports to third countries increased by 10.6% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 1.2 billion levs.

Bulgarian imports from third countries in the first two months of 2012 increased by 8.6%, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to BGN 2.9 B (at CIF prices).

The most significant growths were reported on the imports from Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Syria and Republic of Korea. The largest decreases were observed in the imports from Brazil, United Arab Emirates and Ukraine.

In February 2012, the Bulgarian imports from third countries increased by 16.8% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted almost to BGN 1.5 B.

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries in the period January - February 2012 was negative and amounted to BGN 553.2 million B.

The trade balance at FOB /FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) was also negative and amounted to BGN 414.4 M.

In February 2012, the foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries was negative and amounted to BGN 269.2 M.

In the first two months of 2012, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the largest growth in the exports of Bulgaria to third countries, distributed according to the Standard

International Trade Classification was recorded in the sector "Animal and Vegetable Oils, Fats and Waxes".

The most notable fall was observed in the sector "Mineral Fuels, Lubricants and Related Materials." The largest growth in imports from third countries was reported in sector "Machinery and Transport Equipment" and the most significant fall was accounted for section "Food and Live Animals".

In the period January -February 2012, the total value of the exported goods reached almost BGN 5.7 B. Compared to the corresponding period of 2011, the exports decreased by 6.1%.

In February 2012, the total exports amounted to BGN 2.9 B and decreased by 1.8%, compared to the corresponding month of 2011.

The total imported goods in the period January - February 2012 had a value of BGN 6.9 B (at CIF prices), or 7.2% more than corresponding period of the previous year.

In February 2012, the total imports increased by 13.2% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to over BGN 3.5 B.

The total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative in the period January – February 2012, and amounted to BGN 1252.5 M, which was by BGN 832.1 M more than the balance in the first two months of 2011.

At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) in the period January – February 2012 the total foreign trade balance was also negative and amounted to BGN 912.6 M.

In February 2012, the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative and amounted to BGN 692.0 M. The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices was also negative and reached BGN 513.1 M.
