No-confidence Vote on Hold over Bulgarian MPs Easter Break

The no-confidence vote against the cabinet "Borisov" will be debated and will take place after the Members of the Parliament Easter break.
The no-confidence vote was submitted by the opposition, left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, and the far-right, nationalist Ataka party over the decision of the government to scrap the project to build jointly with Russia a second nuclear power plant in the Danube town of Belene.
The Chair of the Parliamentary group of Borisov's ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, Dimitar Glavchev tells media that the MPs were "inclined" to tackle the issue after Easter.
Their first work day after the break will be April 23.
The no-confidence vote motion was signed by 48 left-wing MPs, 8 Ataka MPs, and one independent, Georgi Terziyski. BSP MP Miglena Plugchieva has refused to sign the no-confidence motion, since she has been nominated by GERB as Bulgarian Ambassador to Switzerland.
According to reports, two Ataka MPs and one BSP lawmaker declared on Friday that they would not support the motion, bringing down the number of those in favor of ousting the government to just 48, which is exactly the bare minimum for a no-confidence motion to be submitted.
A total of 121 votes are necessary for the no-confidence vote to pass. It is already clear that the no-confidence vote is doomed, as all Parliamentary formations besides BSP and Ataka have declared they would not support it.
BSP leader and former Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, commented that the grounds for the vote were rock-solid, stressing that just one year ago Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, had been an adamant supporter of the Belene project.
According to Stanishev, the decision to scrap it is fatal for Bulgaria, its nuclear energy, and its people.
