The Members of the Bulgarian Parliament ratified Friday the agreement between the Defense Ministries of Bulgaria and Israel for partnership in military trainings.

"The agreement is needed in order to strictly regulate the joint military trainings on the territory of the respective country," Defense Minister, Anyu Angelov, says, stressing this collaboration would not bring any burden to public expenditures.

According to the Minister, parliamentary ratification had been needed because Bulgaria does not have any other contract with Israel on the statute of armed forces.

Ventsislav Lakov, MP from the far-right, nationalist Ataka party, explained that his formation would support the ratification because "Israeli army is small, but very well organized and mobile as should be the Bulgarian one."

"Such organization and mobility do not happen here over the shortage of funds. We should use the Israeli know how," Lakov said.

In January, 2010, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov visited Israel, where he met with counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu. This was the first trip of a Bulgarian PM to Israel in the last 18 years. At that time Borisov sealed an agreement for Bulgaria to receive two of the latest armored vehicles "Desert Cats."
