The government has nominated Venko Lazarov as Bulgaria's new Ambassador to Libya.

Lazarov is a career diplomat, longtime head of a department at the Middle East and Africa Directorate at the Foreign Ministry and a former Ambassador of Bulgaria to Lebanon.

Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov posted the news on Twitter on Wednesday, adding that Bulgaria was gearing up to reopen its embassy in Tripoli.

Bulgaria evacuated its diplomatic staff from Libya at the time of the NATO operation against the Gaddafi regime in 2011.
