Bulgarian Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov acclaimed Tuesday the opening of a US Drug Enforcement Administration Office in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

"Today Bulgaria has become an even safer EU external border," stated Tsvetanov at the ceremony in the presence of DEA administrator Michelle Leonhart and US ambassador to Sofia James Warlick.

"With the opening of a DEA office in Sofia Bulgaria will reinforce its leading role in cutting global drug trafficking channels," added Tsvetanov.

The Bulgarian Internal Affairs Minister added that Bulgaria is of strategic significance in the field, due to its geostrategic location.

"Together with the United States, we have achieved some significant success in breaking drug traffic to Europe," said Tsvetanov.

He also used the occasion to thank all Bulgarian and American law enforcement officers who have worked to produce those achievements.
