US DEA Head Lauds New Bulgarian Office

The Tuesday opening of an office in Sofia of the US Drug Enforcement Administration is an extremely important event, said chair Michelle Leonhart.

Tuesday the DEA administrator was in the Bulgarian capital for the official event, which was also attended by Bulgarian Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

"This is the 85th DEA office abroad and is a natural continuation of our mutual commitment in the fight against drug trafficking," said Leonhart.

She further lauded the support her agency and government have been receiving by the Bulgarian government headed by PM Boyko Borisov.

"Just last year Bulgaria intercepted hundreds of kilograms of heroin, as wel as tonnes of precursors," added Leonhart.

Minister Tsvetanov expressed his satisfaction with the opening of DEA's Sofia office and said he hoped the good cooperation with the US will continue.
