4 Bulgarian Police Officers on 1-Month Operation in Belgium

Four officials from the Bulgarian Interior Ministry have worked for a month with Belgian colleagues on the territory of Ghent, where they conducted joint operations and investigations, the department in Sofia said.

Among the officials dispatched on business trips to the city of Ghent were representatives of the Chief Directorate Combating Organized Crime, Chief Directorate Criminal Police, the District Police Directorates in the cities of Ruse and Gabrovo.

In the course of one month, a total of 366 Bulgarian citizens were checked in the city and its surroundings.

The checks yielded 15 people under nationwide search warrants for a range of offenses, two people under international search warrants and 97 people with criminal and court registrations in the country and abroad.

A total of 38 Bulgarian cars were checked, as well as a Bulgarian company, and one fake Bulgarian ID was found.

In the course of the joint operations, 1250 queries were made in the databases of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry, which showed that some 6000 Bulgarians were living in Ghent.

At the end of the one-month business trip to Belgium, the Bulgarian police officers were given a high estimate by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Ghent.
