Bulgaria's Deputy Health Minister, Kiril Dobrev, has submitted his resignation Monday.
The news was announced by Bulgaria's newly-appointed Health Minister, Desislava Atanasova, speaking before reporters after a meeting with patient NGOs.
The resignation has already been approved by Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov. Dobrev will remain at the post until Wednesday.
After April 4, there will be only 2 deputy ministers – Desislava Dimitrova and the also newly-appointed Dr. Mincho Vichev.
The Minister declared that a deputy for medication policy would not be hired because she, herself, will take charge and responsibility for it.
The latest resignation comes on the heels of mass reshuffles at the institution and the entire healthcare sector. They were triggered by a scandal with skyrocketing prices of medications in the country and the huge bonuses received by the leadership of the National Health Insurance Fund, NZOK. The reshuffles included the resignation of Health Minister, Stefan Konstantinov, the dismissal of his Deputy Gergana Pavlova, and the resignation of NZOK Director, Neli Nesheva.
