The Forum of Bulgarian schools in the US has been selected as the "Bulgarian Event of the Year in the US 2011" by the readers of Eurochicago.com.

At the end of January, the editorial team of EuroChicago.com, with the support of the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington DC and all Bulgarian Consulate offices in the US, announced the launch of the second edition of the contest.

The online vote was open to all Bulgarians regardless of their country of residence. The contest concluded Sunday evening with a ceremony and with the Second Bulgarian Dance Festival VEREA '2012 in Chicago, US, where the winner was announced.

The concerts of Theodosii Spassov in the frame of his North America Tour '2011 have received the most votes on the Eurochocago.com site with 59 of them received 12 hours before the closing of the vote. According to the contest's rules, if the results from the online poll differ from the email vote, the latter will prevail and taken into account as more reliable.

These rules have ranked the Forum of Bulgarian Schools as the number one Bulgarian event in US for 2011.

The Forum of Bulgarian schools in the US was held held in the spring of 2011 in Chicago with the participation of Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Georgi Pirinski, Education Minister, Sergey Ignatov, members of the Board of the Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad (ABUCH), diplomats, journalists, clergy, and representatives of Bulgarian schools across the globe.

Those who had voted for Spassov's concert were, however, allowed to take part in the grand prize drawing. The lottery ticket, pulled by 4-year-old Ema, designated Zornitsa Slavova as the winner of the Gateway NV 15.6" HD LED.

The school forum and the concert are followed by: the Bulgarian gathering in Chicago at the beginning of June, 2011 (3rd), the hoisting of the Bulgarian national flag in downtown Chicago to mark Bulgaria's National Holiday, March 3 (4th), Bulgarian evening at the Grammy Museum in Los Angelis on April 9, 2011 (5th), the festivals of the Bulgarian-American Association in Chicago (6th), the crowning of Bulgarian girl Stephanie Chervenkov as Miss Teen Maryland (7th), the premiere of the oratorio "Melancholic Beauty," telling the story of the salvation of Bulgarian Jews from the horrors of the Holocaust (8th), the concert of the folk ensemble "Bulgarians" from Montreal, Canada in Chicago (9th), and the evening of Bulgarian archeology at the Field Museum in Chicago (10th).

The 10 finalists were selected from a total of 60 nominations, after being coordinated with all Eurochicago.com media partners such as Novinite.com.

The initiative aims at media publicizing of US events with Bulgarian participation and of everything great that is connected with Bulgaria in order to make them more popular and attract the attention of the Bulgarian diaspora in America and across the globe.

The proposals for events for the 2012 contest edition can already be sent to the editorial email address - eurochigaco.com@gmail.com.

The Bulgarian news agency BTA is the main partner in the initiative. The editorial team of EuroChicago.com, which is a free portal in Bulgarian, ranked number one in America by Google and Yahoo, is thanking all media that supported them, including Sofia News Agency – Novinite.com & Novinite.bg

An estimated 100 000 Bulgarians live in Chicago, which makes it the city with the largest Bulgarian population outside Bulgaria.
