Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has attributed the collapse of the Belene NPP project to the previous three-way coalition government.

"If there was an opponent to the Belene NPP project, then this was the three-way coalition government and Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev, we just finisher what they started on purpose," said Prime Minister Boyko Borisov in Parliament during Thursday's debates on the draft decision to stop the construction of the Belene NPP.

Borisov added that the right-wing Blue Coalition could not claim success over the suspension of the project.

He nevertheless thanked right-wing leaders Ivan Kostov and Martin Dimitrov for the congratulations offered to the GERB government over the decision to terminate "the compromised project."

Thee Prime Minister explained that the credit for the cancellation of the nuclear power plant project went all to the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and to their government which was unwilling to build the Belene NPP.

"Why did you not sign the contract and why did you not start this irreversible process," the Prime Minister asked socialist MPs.

He insisted that if the previous government had indeed wished to build the nuclear power station, it would have signed the contract and would have taken a loan from Russia, which would have made the project irreversible.

Borisov called the Belene NPP a lie and a Balkan trick that nobody believes which is why no strategic investor can be found

The Prime Minister sided with the claim of President Rosen Plevneliev that the retrofitting of 770 000 panel buildings was a more important task.
