A bus carrying schoolchildren to Sofia caught fire, the Interior Ministry reported on Friday, adding that nobody was injured in the accident.

The flames broke out at around 2.30 p.m. on Friday near the village of Raduil, as the bus was travelling from Kostenets to Sofia.

The bus was carrying 36 children aged 10-12 who were returning from a learning vacation.

Fortunately, the driver noticed the smoke on time.

He opened the doors and helped all of the children and the three teachers get off the bus and unloaded their luggage.

A little later, after all had been moved to a safe distance, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The children, who are studying at a Sofia-based school, were transported to the police department in Borovets on vans of the Sofia police and the carrier was told to send a new bus.
