The National Association of Bus Carriers (NABC) has warned about an upcoming increase in bus fares.
Bus tickets are expected to cost 10-12% more from May due to the high fuel prices.
According to Galya Topalova, Deputy Chair of the NABC, diesel prices currently make up around 50-60% of the cost of bus tickets.
"We are keeping prices down because we introduced an 8% increase in February. In the past year, however, diesel prices went up by around 20%," Topalova said Friday in an interview for private TV station TV7.
She explained that if fuel price spike forecasts about May 2012came true, bus fares would follow suit.
"We do not expect an outflow of passengers because people who are used to travelling by bus will continue to do so," she stated.
No increase in railway fares is expected, according to a statement of the state-owned Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) company.
