Dismissed Today, Re-Recruited Tomorrow

Former Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism will be invited to continue to work for the government because he can be useful on a number of projects, according to Finance Minister Simeon Djankov.

After GERB's decision-maker was not afraid to not present any official reason for Traikov's dismissal other than the minister's notorious sunbathing in Qatar, he is once again not afraid to invite him back in the role of the 'helpful expert'.

The center-right, ruling party has yet again confirmed that it is no stranger to policy U-turns, unabashedly so.

The positive aspect of this deeply negative political experiment is that the wave of public support triggered by Traikov's removal turned into a factor to be reckoned with.

The negative aspect of the 'sunbathing in Qatar' reshuffle is that Bulgaria lost a minister who repeatedly refused to mince his words, to offer sweet nothings when asked for comments, or to resort to streetwise talk and manner.

Another negative aspect is that Traikov already has no other way to accept a collaboration with the GERB government but to backpedal on his recent statement that he has grown "seasick" of politics.

As a result, the country will either lose (a consultant in the face of) a competent ex-minister who rightfully opts for preserving his integrity, or will win back the same competent person (as a consultant) in the all too familiar U-turn style.

To end on a positive note, Bulgarian hope now lies with the 33-year-olds.
