Dozens of Trabant cars – the still surviving tiny "dinosaurs", once the pride of former East Germany's car industry – paraded in the streets of Bulgaria's Veliko Tarnovo on Saturday.

The third annual "Trabant Fest" parade organized by the Veliko Tarnovo Trabant Club as one of the events to honor March 22, the city holiday of Veliko Tarnovo.

A unique cabrio Trabant was among the VT Trabant Fest participants; its owner Ivaylo Antov, a local resident, boasts a total of 47 East German Trabbis. The oldest car in his collection was made in 1963, and the newest – in 1990.

Antov, together with historian Milen Mihov and Nedko Kuzmanov is a co-founder of the VT Trabant Club, BGNES reported Saturday.

A total of 40 Trabant owners from all over Bulgaria came to the event in Veliko Tarnovo to take part with their communist-era vehicle.

The VT Trabant Fest is also dedicated to the 55th birthday of the emblematic car. The first Trabant was produced in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) in 1957; the last one was produced in the factory in Zwickau in 1991.

A Trabant can be bought in Bulgaria today for about BGN 500-600; depending on the car, it spends about 6-8 liters of gas per 100 km.
