Bulgaria's Stanishev Vows to 'Paint Europe Red', Backs Hollande

Bulgarian Socialist leader and interim President of the Party of the European Socialists Sergey Stanishev has endorsed fellow Socialist Francois Hollande for the French Presidency.

"Change starts with you, Francois. It is happening now in France and in Europe. Your election is important for the citizens of France and for all of Europe," the PES President and head of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Stanishev declared at a French Socialist Party conference in Paris Saturday.

Stanishev made his speech in French in order to be able to reach as many French as possible with his message that the entire European left is backing Hollande for the French Presidency.

"Today, Francois, all those who wish for another Europe, a Europe of progress, all those who wish for change, are counting on you, and your win on May 6," the Bulgarian Socialist leader said, as cited by the press service of the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

He stated that since a number of other European nations are to hold elections, the Socialists and Social Democrats are getting ready to re-paint Europe red – "the color of growth, employment, and hope."

"The rightist in Europe have had the total power for too long," Stanishev declared in Paris, reminding that many European nations changed their leftist governments to rightists after the economic crisis kicked in but are now tired of the severe austerity measures imposed on them.

According to the PES President, the economic situation in Europe is the result of the "failure of conservative governments."

"The Party of European Socialists wants a welfare Europe, a Europe of the working. A Europe where everybody has their place," Stanishev said, slamming the current French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Hollande's rival in the upcoming French elections.
