Romanian PM Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu expects this summers Co-operation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) report to be "emphatically positive".

The mechanism has been the driving force behind the reform in Romania's judicial system, Ungureanu pointed out on Thursday after he met with EU President Herman Van Rompuy in Brussels.

Ungureanu has reiterated that Romania's bid to join the Schengen Agreement should not be tied with the Co-operation and Verification Mechanism, the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency informs, citing Romanian media.

On Wednesday, the Romanian PM demanded an extraordinary meeting with EU leaders regarding his country's bid to join the Schengen Agreement and what he perceives as an increasing impact of far-right and anti-European parties in Europe. He referred to the Dutch government's alleged dependence on the far-right Freedom Party (PVV) of Geert Wilders.

The Netherlands has stated that it needs to see two positive CVM reports before letting Bulgaria and Romania join the Schengen Agreement with their air and sea borders.

Ungureanu, who is on his first international visit since he took over in February, is to meet European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso later on Thursday.
