Bulgarian and Qatari officials have started working on a framework agreement that is meant to create opportunities for Qatari investments to enter Bulgaria, according to Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov.

The investment framework agreement has been proposed by Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber bin Muhammad Al Thani, as he wants to fix the framework of Qatar's initial investments in Bulgaria, Mladenov said on Wednesday.

An investment agreement is expected to be first created in the fields of tourism, agriculture and infrastructure, he revealed.

Nikolay Mladenov stated that he expected a framework agreement between the two countries to be signed by May 2012.

Mladenov is in Qatar as part of a Bulgarian governmental delegation headed by PM Boyko Borisov. On Wednesday, the Foreign Minister met with his Qatari counterpart Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah.

Earlier in the day, Borisov met with the ruling Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Mladenov labeled the meeting "positive" and reported that the two main topics, in addition to the one about investments, had been partnership in the culture and education sectors.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani voiced readiness to assist in attracting Bulgarians to work in Qatar.
