The negotiations between Manchester United and Bulgarian forward Dimitar Berbatov have reached a successful end and his contract will be renewed anytime now, according to Bulgarian media.

United will exercise its option to renew Berbatov's contract and tie him down for 12 more months, gong.bg has learned from two unnamed sources.

According to gong.bg, Manchester United's official website will confirm the striker's contract extension later on Wednesday, while Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to comment on the Bulgarian's fate during the press conference preceding the team's Europa League clash against Atletic Bilbao or ahead of the game against Wolverhampton this weekend.

Recently, Berbatov admitted it hurts to be little more than a bit-part player in Manchester United's Premier League title quest - but is ready and willing to make an impact when required.

"It's sad and it's painful but you need to be strong and be prepared for when your team-mates need your help," the forward told United Review.

The prolific striker's struggle to make it into the Red Devils' starting eleven has given rise to a number of transfer rumors, the most recent "sending" him to Valencia and Sevilla.
