Bulgaria's cabinet has decided to propose a total of 7 new Ambassadors abroad, the country's Foreign Ministry has announced.

Former Minister for the Management of the EU Funds Meglena Plugchieva, who is currently an MP with the oppositional Bulgarian Socialist Party, has been proposed as the next Bulgarian Ambassador to Switzerland.

Chavdar Nikolov will be appointed as Ambassador to Brazil, Plamen Bonchev – to Georgia, Svetlan Stoev - Sweden, Maxim Gaytandzhiev – to Argentina and Vasiliy Takev – to Poland, all of the five being career diplomats.

Tanya Dimitrova, governor of the southern Bulgarian district of Yambol, has been proposed as the Bulgarian envoy to Croatia.

"These countries are important in terms of foreign policy and as economic and cultural partners of Bulgaria. The achievement of concrete results, especially in the economic and investment sphere, will be a priority for the newly appointed Ambassadors," the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has said in a statement.

The appointments now have to be approved by President Rosen Plevneliev.

In January, Bulgaria launched its major diplomatic reshuffle that aimed to replace Ambassadors whose terms have expired, as well as many envoys exposed as agents of the former State Security, the secret service of the Bulgarian communist regime.
