Vice President Margarita Popova will present Thursday the chair and the members of the Pardons Committee.

Thursday's meeting will also shed light on the body's rules of procedure and the manner in which it observes the principles of openness and transparency.

The Pardons Committee is headed by Iva Pushkarova, a lecturer in criminal law at the Ministry of Interior Academy and in international criminal law at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".

Pushkarova is Chair of the Justice Development Foundation.

The idea to place inside experts in charge of the Pardons Committee was proposed by Popova after the scandal with the questioned capacity of her predecessor, Angel Marin, broke out.

The problem surfaced after it was revealed that former President Georgi Parvanov had failed to issue a second decree delegating a number of prerogatives, among which the granting of pardons, the cancellation of uncollectible debts to the state and the and the granting, restoration and withdrawal of Bulgarian citizenship, to the Vice President for the second term in office.
