Bulgarian police are investigating the possible exhaust pipe poisoning suicide of an elderly couple.

Two elderly people have been found dead in the village of Kanchevo, near the town of Kazanlak in central Bulgaria.

Maria and Velichko Petkovi were found in the garage of their home Saturday morning by neighbors, who are reported in shock.

Police are saying the most probable cause is suicide.

The woman is 73 and the man is 74. They have put on their pajamas, placed a blanket under the exhaust pipe of their obsolete Lada automobile, turned the engine on, laid under the exhaust, covered with another blanket and suffocated to death.

Clothes prepared for their funeral were found in one of the rooms inside the house, but no suicide note or any sign of violence.

The couple is survived by one daughter, who works as a Customs agent. They also had a son, who had passed away about one year ago.

Neighbors say they did not know of any serious illness of either of them.

Police are investigating the case.
