Bulgaria Mourns Its Flood Victims

Wednesday was a day of mourning in Bulgaria in order to commemorate the victims of the tragic flood that took at least eight lives on Monday.

All flags at State institutions were at half staff on Wednesday. The busted wall of the Ivanovo dam submerged under water Monday the village of Biser near the southern town of Harmanli.

The village has about 800 residents. Several other settlements in the area were also strongly affected by the raging waters in the aftermath of heavy snow. According to the latest data, eight people died, while two are still missing.

There was a threat of a second dam wall failure in the vicinity of the village of Biser, the press office of the Interior Ministry said in a statement Tuesday noon.
