Extreme security measures have been implemented by Bulgarian authorities during the Sunday visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Bulgarian capital Sofia.

Clinton arrived in Sofia around 12.30 EET, and is set to stay a few hours, discussing with Bulgarian leaders key global and bilateral issues.

1,050 police officers have been specially commissioned to guard the safety of Sunday's events.

A large segment of the Sofia center has been blocked out for access for citizens, except local residents. Road traffic has also been closed on a number of boulevards and streeds downtown.

Mobile phone operators have warned that there might be a denial of service due to security reasons during the visit.

Hillary Clinton's first meeting Sunday will be with Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev.
