Traffic of tractor trailers has been reinstated on both sides of the Danube Bridge connecting Bulgaria through the city of Ruse with Romania.

The news was reported by the Border Police Saturday. The bridge was closed for freight traffic on the Romanian side over inclement weather and heavy snowfall.

The tractor trailers are being let go gradually, in groups of 30 from each side of the border – 200 trucks are waiting in line on each side, or a total of 400 must be processed.

It was also reported Saturday that airport in the second largest city of Plovdiv had reopened after thick fog prompted its closure early in the morning, and flights are running on time.

A second avalanche in the course of the last two days had closed the road between the city of Smolyan and the village of Mugla in the Rhodoppe Mountains. Snowplows are traveling to the location – the same one that was blocked by another avalanche at noon Friday, which had just been cleaned.

Researchers from the Plovdiv Fruit Growing Institute warn that the harvest of peaches, apricots, grapes, figs and kiwi fruit this year will be lower since the lengthy record cold had frozen fruit trees.
