Bulgarian Woman Gives Birth on Way to Hospital as Ambulance Battles Snow

A 23-year-old woman from the northeastern Bulgarian town Dulovo gave birth to a baby girl in an ambulance on the way to the hospital on Friday.

The woman had gone into labor and was on her to the hospital in the city of Silistra because the delivery suite at the hospital in Dulovo had been closed in September 2011 for financial reasons.

A team of emergency room doctors from the hospital met the ambulance near the town of Alfatar.

The mother and the baby are in good health condition and have been accommodated at the hospital in Silistra.

The emergency care team transported two other women in labor to the hospitals in Silistra and Tutrakan on Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Another woman about to give birth was rescued from the snow drifts between the southeastern villages of Venets and Lozenets, according to an announcement of Galin Kostov, director of the Regional Road Department in Yambol.

The woman was taken to the hospital in Yambol, where she gave birth.
