Copenhagen hopes that a solution regarding Bulgaria and Romania's Schengen bids will be found as quickly as possible, Danish Justice Minister Morten Boedskov has declared.

Bulgaria and Romania's substantial efforts to cover the criteria set for a Schengen Agreement entry should be recognized, according to Boedskov.

"We will continue seeking a decision that will be accepted by everyone," the Justice Minister stated on Wednesday, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency. He believes that a balance should be found in the bloc between free movement and security within the Schengen zone.

Danish ambassador to Romania Michael Sternberg, as well as the country's envoy in Sofia Kaare Janson, also pledged on Tuesday that Denmark's EU Presidency will seek a solution concerning the two EU newcomers' Schengen accession.

Bulgaria and Romania were expected to join Schengen in 2011 but their accession was vetoed by the Netherlands which was concerned about the widespread corruption and organized crime in the two Balkan neighbors.

The Netherlands is the only country still opposing and blocking the proposed Bulgarian and Romanian phased-in Schengen accession, after Finland retracted its obstruction in November.
