The US is in a worse situation, compared to Bulgaria, when it comes to national debt, according to US Ambassador in Sofia, James Warlick.

Speaking in an interview for the Bulgarian National Television, BNT, Thursday, Warlick pointed out that several cabinets passed some very courageous decisions which prevented staggering debt, secured the lowest debt in Europe, and turned into a solid foundation for the future.

According to the diplomat, the price for all this had been high since governments did not have the necessary resources to boast economic growth, but Bulgaria now is in good standing.

The Ambassador voiced the opinion that 2012 would be difficult for both Bulgaria and the US.

"The unemployment rate in the US is 10%, almost the same as in Bulgaria, which will make the situation even more difficult," he said.

Nevertheless, Warlick voiced hope there would be a renewed economy and new investments in 2012, stressing that the governments of the two countries are the ones to create a favorable economic environment.

The Ambassador sees his role in the latter process in the effort to encourage American investors to travel to Bulgaria and start projects in the country.
