The Columbia County Chamber Orchestra's inaugural performance Saturday will feature a Bulgarian pianist making her first tour of America, local media reported.

After seeing 17-year-old Lili Bogdanova in a YouTube video, the Columbia County Orchestra Association invited the pianist from Sofia, Bulgaria, to play here, the association Executive Director Rob Nordan told the Columbia County News Times.

The concert will be the North American debut for Bogdanova, who primarily has performed in Europe, Nordan said.

During Bogdanova's three-week stay, she also is scheduled to play at area churches and schools.

Augusta State University music professors Laura Tomlin, Kelly Odell, Barry Garman and Carl Purdy are some of the local professionals scheduled to play during the concert.

"We wanted to give locals a chance (and) give folks faces they recognize," Nordan said of the lineup of musicians.

Works the orchestra will be performing include Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 and Piano Concerto No. 1, as well as parts of Bach's Harpsichord Concerto No. 5.

The concert will be held 6 p.m. Saturday at Genesis Church, 470 Furys Ferry Road, Martinez.
