Three serious chain crashes had occurred Tuesday on southern Bulgaria's main Trakiya highway, one of which caused the closure of the road.

According to the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR, citing Bulgaria's State Agency Road Infrastructure, the highway is closed 170 km away from the capital Sofia in the direction of the Black Sea city of Burgas, in the road section between Plovdiv and Stara Zagora.

Two freight trucks and several cars have been involved in a chain collision there. Three people have sustained injuries.

Another accident had occurred almost on the same spot, according to the Bulgarian 24 Chassa (24 Hours) daily, but there isn't any information on it yet.

The third chain crash has happened on kilometer 169 in the direction of Plovdiv, where three vehicles have collided, one of which is a traffic police patrol car – it had overturned and several people, including police officers, have been injured.

Police say there is a detour through the village of Plodovitovo. Very dense fog is reported in the area and drivers are warned to exercise extreme caution.
