During 2012, the Bulgarian government will concentrate its efforts in improving conditions for business in the country, said Bulgaria's Minister of Economy and Energy Traicho Traikov.

Speaking in an interview for the Bulgarian News Agency, Traikov said that the key cabinet priorities in the economy for 2012 will be issues such as lowering administrative burden, improving EU funds absorption, and developing new instruments to support businesses.

"For the following EU budgeting period, Bulgaria will request 50% of its funds on the European Regional Development Fund to be devoted to increasing competitiveness of small and medium enterprises, as well as boosting their energy efficiency," argued the Economy Minister.

According to estimates, during 2012 at least EUR 100 M of grants on the EU Competitiveness Operational Programme will be paid out to Bulgarian businesses; they are also expected to receive up to EUR 200 M on JEREMIE preferential loans.

"Next year, Bulgaria will also be actively targeting countries that have not been central to our exports, but which are still promising - such as China, Russia, Vietnam, Brazil, the Central Asian republics," added Traikov.
