Russian Opposition to Hold Next Protest Rally in February

The Russian opposition plans to hold its next mass rally against the Putin regime in February, according to Boris Nemtsov, one of the leaders of the Russian "Solidarity" movement.

The Russian "non-establishment" opposition rallied some 120 000 people in Moscow Saturday demanding a cancellation of the results of the December 4 parliamentary elections over election fraud.

The opposition has not determined yet the exact date of its next rally in February 2012, Nemtsov, a former Deputy PM of Russia in 1997-1998, told Interfax after Saturday rallies in Moscow and across Russia.

"The rally will also have to do in connection with the upcoming presidential elections, and with the implementation of the declaration [adopted at Saturday's opposition rally calling for new general elections]," Nemtsov said, referring to the March 4 elections for President of Russia in which current PM Vladimir Putin will stand for reelection.

He is convinced that February is the most suitable time for raising the protesters' demands with respect to both the December elections for the Duma and the upcoming presidential vote in Russia.
