Bulgarian Ruling Party: Full Snow Removal Is Socialism

A heated dispute took place on Thursday in Sofia's municipal council as members of the oppositional Bulgarian Socialist Party claimed that the capital's streets were blocked by insufficient snow removal.

"Socialism has spoiled you too much," Malina Edreva, a municipal council member with the ruling centrist right GERB told her left-wing colleagues, as cited by dnevnik.bg. Edreva pointed out that "even Brussels is blocked when the first snow arrives."

Sofia's Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, who is endorsed by GERB, also stated that the snow cannot be fully removed, even though the snow-removal machinery was working.

She further reminded that it was the responsibility of the citizens to clean the areas in front of their homes and offices, adding that she actually saw some people doing that on her way to work in the morning.

Left-wing municipal council members demanded that Fandakova report on how much money was spent on snow removal on Thursday.
