Independent MP Dimitar Chukarski has accused former EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva of plagiarizing the name of her newly founded civic movement.

According to Chukrski, a former MP of the marginal conservative Order, Law and Justice party (RZS), Kuneva's "Bulgaria for Citizens" largely coincides with a name he reserved five months ago, "Bulgaria for Citizens and Regions".

On Sunday, the former EU Commissioner, who ranked third in the end-October presidential elections, announced the launch of the "Bulgaria for Citizens" civic movement, saying that its main goal would be to actively participate in the debate for the articulation of Bulgaria's national goals.

"The current center-right GERB cabinet led by PM Boyko Borisov consistently fails to serve citizens in the area of security, the rule of law and the rights of citizens. The policies serve only oligarchs and monopolies," Kuneva stated.

On Wednesday, Chukarski and another independent MP, Todor Velikov (also a former MP from RZS) explained that they had come up with the idea for a thusly-named association in mid- 2011, following a meeting in Parliament with US Ambassador James Warlick.

Chukarski explained that the name of their association had been reserved with Information Services PLC on July 22 for a period of five months and the term had been extended.

After the July 07 meeting between 10 independent MPs and US Ambassador to Bulgaria James Warlick, rumors started circulating that the renegade MPs would set up a new party, which has not happened so far,

In his Wednesday statement, Chukarski argued that there was no legal obstacle for the registration of both movements but the case involved a "plagiarism of ideas".

""Bulgaria for Citizens and Regions" is a framework we used at the last parliamentary elections and through which RZS managed to enter this Parliament," Velikov said, adding that they were working to restore the framework.

"The formation will have a center/center-right orientation," Chukarski announced.
