A union between Albania and neighboring Kosovo which has an ethnic Albanian majority is not an option, Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha has declared.

Integrating with the European Union is the best option for both Albania and Kosovo to pursue, Berisha has further stated.

"We should see our future in the EU," the Albanian Prime Minister has said, as cited by albeu.com. He believes that Albania and Kosovo's accession to the bloc will mark the best days in their history.

Kosovo, which declared independence on February 17, 2008, despite opposition from Serbia, has been recognized as an independent state by more than 80 countries.

Serbian officials have expressed on numerous occasions their fears that Kosovo and Albania may unite and create a "Great Albania" on the Balkan Peninsula.

Recognizing the independence of the breakaway province of Kosovo is a de facto requirement for Serbia's potential accession to the European Union.
