Czech dissident and former president Vaclav Havel will be always remembered by the democratic world as a person entirely devoted to the fight for freedom, stated Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov.

Parvanov sent a letter of condolences to Czech counterpart Vaclav Klaus on the news of Vaclav Havel's demise Sunday.

"With both his writer's pen and active position, president Havel relentlessly defended the rights and freedoms of citizens, the well-being of the Czech people," said the Bulgarian president.

"Loved both at home and abroad, Havel was a keen observer and an active critic of the widening gap between the rich and the poor globally, and of the increasing danger for racial and cultural clashes in our world," remarked Parvanov.

The Bulgarian President further points out that as fellow Eastern Europeans sharing a similar history, the Bulgarian people hold Vaclav Havel's cause especially dear.
