Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has accused the media of spreading the news about the mysterious night-time car arsons in Sofia, thus, in his view, helping to encourage this type of crime.

Several dozens of parked vehicles have been torched over the past few weeks in Sofia, with the arsons continuing even after the police nabbed 63 suspects in a special operation.

"If this news story hadn't been broadcast all the time, they wouldn't have set those cars on fire. If you hadn't been doing that there would have been no arsons. The culprits always get caught eventually," Borisov told reporters Friday, as cited by BGNES.

Bulgaria's Interior Ministry has failed to solve the case of the spreading car arsons to date despite measures vowed by Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, leading the State National Security Agency DANS to step in as well.
