Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has snubbed criticism by the EU institutions of Russia's December 4 parliamentary elections, which have been widely criticized for election fraud in favor of Medvedev and Vladimir Putin's ruling United Russia party.

During a joint press conference with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, Russia's head of state and government Dmitry Medvedev a European Parliament resolution calling for new State Duma elections "means nothing."

"I have nothing to say on this resolution, because these are our elections. The European Parliament has no relation to them. They can comment on anything they want. I will not comment on their decisions as they mean nothing to me," Medvedev stated, as cited by RIA Novosti.

Russia's parliamentary parties have severely criticized the European Parliament's resolution, labeling it interference in the country's domestic affairs, and have demanded that it stop such "escapades," the Russian President said.

Dmitry Medvedev was in Brussels Thursday for a regular summit of the EU-Russia Council.

The European Parliament has called for "new free and fair elections" in Russia, amidst various report of election fraud that gave a contested win to Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev's ruling United Russia party.

In its resolution adopted Wednesday, the EP also called for "an immediate and full investigation of all reports of fraud and intimidation in the Russian elections".
