Two cars were set ablaze Wednesday evening in Sofia's Hadzhi Dimitar residential district, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The torched vehicles were a Volkswagen and a Citroen.

On Tuesday night, 10 cars burned down in the Mladost residential district in the capital.

The owners of the vehicles were found to have no criminal records and the investigating authorities failed to see any connection between them.

"We urge citizens who saw anything to report it - we are counting on heir support. Both this evening and last night it was ordinary people who got their cars damaged – people who use their cars on a daily basis. This makes the crime one carrying serious social repercussions," said Valeri Yordanov, Director of the Sofia Directorate of the Ministry of Interior.

According to preliminary reports, the two cars that burned down in Hadzi Dimitar had been deliberately set on fire.

The tip-off was received on the 112 emergency hotline after 9 p.m.

An inspection of the scene of the incident is underway and the police are looking for witnesses.
