Bulgaria Marks Land Forces Day

Bulgarian Land Forces mark Saturday their official holiday.

November 19 was designated as the Day of Bulgaria's Land Forces in 1992 with a decision of the Council of Ministers and an order of the then Defense Minister.

The date was chosen because on November 19, 1885, Bulgaria's army won a great victory in the Slivnitsa battle during the Serb-Bulgarian War. This was also the beginning of the establishment of the country's independent army.

In honor of the day, representatives of the land forces and of military patriotic Bulgarian unions took part in the traditional march in the footsteps of Slivnitsa's heroes at locations where battles were held in 1885.
