Bulgaria is asking the European Commission for a reimbursement in the amount of over BGN 450 M in expenses for large infrastructure projects.

The information was reported Wednesday by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Lilyana Pavlova, during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Council of Ministers.

Pavlova says bills of all payments made by the State for these projects have been submitted to the Ministries of Transport and Finance in order to prepare a common certificate, which includes the subway in the capital Sofia, the highways, and railways projects in the total amount of BGN 450 M.

Expenses for all priority projects such as the Trakiya Highway and all projects financed under the EU operational programs Transport and Regional Development have been certified and are expected to be reimbursed by the end of the year, according to the Minister.

"At this stage there is no reason for alarm – this is a normal certification and reimbursement process," she says.

A month ago, during an official visit to Bulgaria, EU Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn promised more funding for highways and railways.
