Bulgarians, Romanians Face 2 More Years of Closed Dutch Labor Market

Dutch Social Affairs Minister Henk Kamp will propose a further two-year delay to allowing Bulgarian and Romanian workers on its labor market, a report says.

Until 2014, Bulgarians and Romanians are to be employed in the Netherlands only for jobs no other EU national is able to do, the Social Affairs Minister's plan allegedly foresees. Kamp's proposal is to be discussed at the Dutch cabinet's meeting on Friday, according to the Dutch Nos TV channel.

Since July 1, Bulgarians and Romanians, as well as foreigners from outside the EU, are only granted a work permit in the Netherlands under "exceptional cases."

The Netherlands is one of the ten EU member states that have kept job restrictions on citizens of the two countries that joined the EU in 2007. The others are Belgium, Germany, Ireland, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Austria, the UK and Malta.

Starting January 1 2014, Bulgarians and Romanians will be free to work in all of the bloc's member states.
