An improvised explosive device (IED) has exploded outside the office of Greece's Deputy Foreign Minister Mariliza Xenogiannakopoulou, causing minor damage and no victims.

According to local police authorities, as cited by international news agencies, the homemade bomb has been constructed using gas cylinders, which is said to be characteristic of Greek anarchist organizations.

Nobody has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, which was carried out hours after the speech of the new Prime Minister, Lucas Papademos, delivered at the Greek Parliament in Athens.

In his Monday address, Papademos stressed that remaining in the Eurozone was Greece's "only choice" and the government had to undertake a commitment to abide by the European Union's (EU) conditions on reducing the deficit by implementing the austerity package.
