The explosions that took place Saturday at former military storage facilities near the northern Bulgarian town of Sevlievo were very probably caused by arson.

Haralambi Yonkov, head of the storage facilities' security, told the TV 7 private channel on Sunday that arson is a possible cause for Saturday's blasts.

The explosions took place just several minutes after security guards started their shift at the object, it has been revealed. Their obligatory initial inspection showed no signs of entry in the places where munitions were stored.

On Saturday, around 9 am, explosions occurred at the former military storage facilities between Sevlievo and the village of Lovnidol. The area was sealed and secured.

The six warehouses at which the explosions occurred belong to a private, Sofia-based company, Emco. The company purchased them in 2008 and later renovated them.

The munitions stored were bought from the Czech Republic and were supposed to be sold abroad once their condition is inspected.
