With a brilliant Bulgarian participation, Milan's La Scala became the first foreign troupe to perform on the Moscow's Bolshoi Theater stage, just days after it reopened to the public after a six-year restoration project.

Saturday night, the Italian musicians performed Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi, featuring internationally-recognized Bulgarian soprano, Krasimira Stoyanova, in one of the solo parts.

The news was reported Sunday by the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR.

La Scala performers were led by newly-appointed La Scala Director – star-conductor, Daniel Barenboim.

"I am as always on the front line, where the responsibility is so much higher. I hope to be able to fulfill this responsibility. I have been on many stages, and the Bolshoi one has a lot of tradition. We all know the large number of opera and ballet stars, who were born here," Stoyanova told the BNR correspondent in Moscow before the performance.

In the last 13 years, the Bulgarian soprano worked as a soloist with the Vienna Opera and has performed successfully on some of the most prominent stages across the globe.

"Ms. Stoyanova is one of the most famous sopranos in the world and we are happy she could be with us tonight. I can say she is also part of La Scala since she has performed in a number of operas on our stage for years now," La Scala superintendent, Stephane Lissner, is quoted saying.
