Tomislav Donchev, Bulgaria's Minister in charge with EU funds absorption has warned the newly elected mayors across the country against making "radical changes" in the staffs working on EU projects.

Over the last year, the quality of work within the Bulgarian municipal administrations has increased significantly, which has directly the country's absorption of EU funds money, Donchev claimed on Sunday in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio.

However, in the aftermath of the recent local elections in Bulgaria, the Minister revealed he was concerned that some newly elected mayors may resort to firing professionals that have worked with previous administrations.

"I hereby call on all new mayors to keep all high-quality professionals. Such people are very difficult to develop. They cannot be educated for six months or a single year," Donchev declared, adding he hoped that no "experiments" will be made in the projects that are already underway.

Donchev further stated he was satisfied with Bulgaria's 2012 draft budget as far as his Ministry was concerned. He added that Bulgaria should start working even faster if it does not want to lose EU funds money.
