Outgoing President Georgi Parvanov has sent congratulation letters to President-Elect Rosen Plevneliev and to each of the mayors elected at the first and second round of the local elections.

"The support your bid received is an expression of the will of the majority of Bulgarian citizens. I believe you will find the most accurate solutions for becoming a bulwark of the Constitution and upholding the rights and freedoms of all Bulgarian citizens," Parvanov said in his Monday letter to Plevneliev, as cited by the President's press office.

"Allow me to voice my confidence that with your assumption of office the country will have a President who will extend the institutional traditions established over the past two decades. The everyday work of the head of state is a constant reinterpretation of the concept of patriotism and of the striving for consolidating civil society," Parvanov stated.

"The goal is to preserve Bulgarian identity so as to be able to transfer it to future generations. I express my hopes that this striving will persist in the name of the Republic of Bulgaria and its good reputation in Europe and abroad," the outgoing head of state added.

In conclusion, Parvanov wished Plevneliev a successful and productive tenure at the highest and most accountable office of the state.
