Brazil's former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his larynx, it was revealed on Saturday.
The tumor was detected during an examination at Sao Paulo's Sirio Libanes Hospital, Chicago Sun-Times has informed. He is to begin chemotherapy.
Brazil's most popular president ever is in "very good condition", according to the doctors who are treating him.
"Thanks to preventive tests, the tumor was discovered at a stage that allows it to be treated and cured," Lula's successor Dilma Rousseff said in an e-mailed statement on Saturday, as cited by Bloomberg.
Rousseff herself was treated for a malignant tumor back in 2009.
