Bulgaria Election Body Fails to Censure Ruling Party MPs for Interfering with Elections

Bulgaria's Central Electoral Commission failed to adopt a pronouncement Saturday on the fact that two ruling GERB party MPs were present at the Sofia Municipal Electoral Commission upon counting ballots.

The two GERB MPs were uncovered by reporters amid the chaos that erupted at the Sofia commission right after the first round of presidential and local elections last Sunday.

According to Bulgarian law, only persons explicitly authorized as involved in the election process can be present on electoral commission premises.

Saturday, the Central Electoral Comission had a sitting on the case but failed to reach a decision, because voting could not reach the required 2/3 majority.

In an interview Friday, Bulgarian PM and GERB leader Boyko Borisov extravagantly stated that as a matter of fact the two MPs had not been not present at the Electoral Commission.
